Mother’s Love-Tsegué-Maryam Guébrou Amazing record. Listened to this one all year. Top five. So good to have on at home chilling out.The Ethiopique series is the best guarantee to have your mind seriously fascinated and altered.

Elephant Gun- Beirut I realize so much about music is swept up in memories, and there was something positively refreshing about seeing this band play the way they did, acoustic and all big and together, earlier this year in Sydney. Being refreshed is really important.

Amassakoul-Tinawren Love love love this song. Missed this band play at the Old Town School of Folk Music in Chicago this year. Totally regret it, sounded like a blast. I love the chanty-ness of it , rhythmic chanting .

Pagan Poetry- Bjork Call me crazy , this is the only Bjork record I listen to, somehow the understatement of it effects me in a good way. And this song is so wonderfully dark and instrumentally probably my fave on the record.

Golden Years- David Bowie It could have been many Bowie songs. I remember reading how ‘plastic’ and ‘white soul’ this period was and he seemed kind of embarrassed about that…I think. Anyway, who cares, it’s really FUN and a great dancing song.

If I had a heart- Fever Ray I like her freaky vibes, but such a good intro song to the record.

Electric Feel-Mgmt A great (hit) song. I can’t help thinking this song was written as a parody and then it became just a great song. But when you have that music and then you write ‘ooh girl’ .- I can’t deny, it makes me laugh everytime

You the Vandal- Moondog I don’t know much about Moondog. I know I heard him when my friend DJ’d and when I asked her who it was she said ‘Moondog… my man’. That was enough! It’s so good to listen to while you make things.

Just like Honey-Jesus and Mary Chain Teenage memories. This band seemed cooler than cool but then this song was sweeter than gorgeous pop and I felt like I won the war when I first heard this.

Victoria -The Kinks Discovering the Kinks lately.. Always loved this song though, seeing as I grew up in a Commonwealth country but living outside it now. A great tune.
